Nelo USA was founded with one simple vision in mind; to grow and support niche water sports in the United States with high quality products and expert guidance.
At Nelo USA, we believe in the transformative, positive, community building power of sport. We believe in the ideals and philosophy of Olympism – in “blending sport with culture and education, Olympism seeks to create a way of life based on the joy found in effort, the educational value of good example and respect for universal fundamental ethical principles in the spirit of friendship and fair play”.
Maggie competed at the 2016 Olympic Games in the highly competitive Women’s K1 500m. Over her Canoe Sprint career, she earned medals at the World Championship and World Cup level. She represented the USA in 24 World Championships across 5 different water sports. She has won over 40 National titles.
Getting her start as a collegiate D1 swimmer, Maggie has a background as an ocean lifeguard.
She brings a wealth of experience and technical knowledge to her coaching and has a knack for making the complicated paddle stroke a simple and easy thing to understand.
Maggie brings originality, agility and enthusiasm to the team at Nelo USA.
As an athlete, Michèle grew up paddling and surfing the South African coastline. This led to an international career first in canoe sprint, then in flat water marathon and surfski. Her achievements include making an Olympic final, winning a medal at the Canoe Marathon World Championships, winning the Surfski World Championships, as well as many international surfski races. She has also won multiple river races, including the famous Berg, Drak, Fish and Sella River races.
She transitioned to coaching over a decade ago, and has come full circle by becoming the Team USA Coach at the Rio Olympics.
Her almost three decades of paddling experience as both coach and athlete, coupled with her education, makes her a valuable resource in the community where she loves to help others reach their full potential.
Michèle brings versatility, authenticity and an innovative approach to the team at Nelo USA.
Welcome to Three Oceans, where the spirit of the ocean waves infuses everything we do. Our journey began with three passionate souls—Michèle, Maggie, and the boundless allure of the world’s vast oceans. Michèle, raised by the warm, inviting waters of the Indian Ocean, and Maggie, whose heart was captured by the dual charms of the Atlantic and Pacific, both grew up with saltwater in their veins, surfing and paddling from dawn till dusk.
Now based on the vibrant West Coast of the USA, we have embraced the Pacific Ocean as our new aquatic sanctuary. Our proximity to the majestic Columbia River, which flows mightily into the Pacific, adds a unique dimension to our oceanic passion. Although technically a river, the Columbia’s remarkable downwind conditions give it the feel of an open ocean, making it an ideal extension of our oceanic playground.
At Three Oceans, we channel the dynamic energy and profound tranquility of these waters into our business, crafting experiences that are true to our roots and respectful of the marine heritage that inspires us. Join us as we ride the waves of adventure and sustainability, committed to honoring the oceans that connect us all.
Nelo is the world leader in high performance kayaks and canoes whose core competencies include innovation-based R&D, manufacturing and athlete centric services.
Nelo was created in 1978 by Manuel Ramos, and is located in Vila do Conde, Portugal. The company was founded by paddlers and continues to this day to be run by athletes and enthusiasts.
Nelo is proudly Portuguese; extending this nation’s centuries-long expertise in boat building. From the Caravel sailing ships that dominated long voyages in the 15th – 17th century to current day Olympic Champions, the Portuguese have been designing innovative world class boats for centuries. The Nina and Pinta which were sailed by Christopher Columbus, were caravel ships!
